On Tuesday June 1 Steve Palazzo defeated Joe Tegerdine in the Republican Primary and will face Gene Taylor in the general election on November 2. The numbers were 59.91% for Steve Palazzo and 39.93% for Joe Tegerdine.
Both candidates ran solid campaigns canvassing and speaking to the entire district. Our chairman Theron Furr contacted both candidates after the results for congratulations and condolensces.
For Joe Tegerdine, it's back to his job in Petal, MS and a look to the future as this is probably not the last time we will see him. He laid the ground work as a solid grass roots candidate with an endorsement by the ever popular and growing tea party movement. We wish Joe Tegerdine all the best in the future.
Steve Palazzo's campaign now shifts into high gear as he faces 20 year democratic emcumbent Gene Taylor. With 5 months to go before the general election, Palazzo will unify the party and put full steam ahead to reach out to the thousands of Republicans in this district that vote for Taylor. To break this stranglehold Palazzo must educate the people about Taylor's voting record (not just the Pelosi factor), such as:
Voted YES on $15B bailout for GM and Chrysler. (Dec 2008)
Voted YES on $192B additional anti-recession stimulus spending. (Jul 2009)
Voted NO on making the Bush tax cuts permanent. (Apr 2002)
Voted YES on providing $70 million for Section 8 Housing vouchers. (Jun 2006)
and many others.
This Committee is behind Steven Palazzo in his effort to put this district back in Republican hands.
