In their first meeting following the June 1 Republican Primary, the Jackson County Republican Executive Committee unanimously voted on a motion to endorse Steven Palazzo as the Republican candidate to face Gene Taylor in the general election in November. The motion was entered at 7 pm Thursday June 10 during the monthly meeting of the Jackson County Republican Executive Committee.
Palazzo defeated Tea Party favorite, Joe Tegerdine, 60% to 40% to gain the nomination. It was Tegerdine’s first time ever running for political office. Pioneer Dinner
The second annual Republican Poineeer Dinner was held in Jackson, Mississippi on Monday night May 10. Several members of the Jackson County Republican Executive Committee were in attendance. Those pictured are Jennifer (teal blouse), Theron Furr (black suit), and Joseph Swinford (blue shirt). Non-members pictured are Alice Furr (second from left), Marileigh Furr (third from left), and Stephanie Swinford (last on right). Carol ann Wilkerson and Jeanne Luckey were members who also attended.
It was a quite successful event gathering over 700 Republicans from all over the state. There were several notable speakers who introduced each other and told humourous anticdotes. The guest of Honor was Rubel Phillips, who was an instrumental figure in the forming of Mississippi's Republican Party and it's rise.
Brad White, chairman of the Mississippi Republican Party, was the emcee for the evening and told a funny story about the late Kirk Fordice and his love of the second amendment which ended in a roar of laughter. Intrigued? Make sure you attend next year.
The evening ended with Haley Barbour making a speech and honoring Rubel Phillips with a plaque signifying the gratitude we all in the Republican Party have for such leaders as Mr. Phillips and his wife.
The event was great fun and we hope more members can attend next year.
